The Borough is a four-MC Brooklyn crew with no frills and big presence. They came to Soultrane with rough bars and bigger vision: a borough-sourced project, made only with local sound. Soultrane sampled field audio from subway stations, deli radios, church bells, and sidewalk ciphers, building gritty backdrops for DJ Lenz’s scratch cuts and Rico Styles’ live bass.
Classic hip-hop with subway soul—Concrete Poets captures borough life in 6 dusty tracks.
The sessions were cypher-style—live recording, two takes max. Soultrane chopped the best takes, adding MPC sequences and SP-404 noise layers. The mix is tight and raw, saturated in analog compression and full of low-mid character. The EP feels archival and urgent at once, like something unearthed from an old DAT tape that still bangs.
